Strandverket Art Museum

44267 Marstrand, Kungälv

Strandverket Konsthall or, Strandverket Art Museum, is housed in an old fort on the beautiful island of Marstrand off the west coast. The art museum showcases mainly photography and sculpture, as well as paintings and digital art.

The site of the museum is an 18th century fort by the south entrance to the harbour in Marstrand. Highly contemporary art juxtaposes beautifully with the inside and outside of the historical building.

Art, eats and browsing

The permanent collection here is sculpture and it is kicked off inside the courtyard with pieces by Sean Henry, Bernar Venet, Pål Svensson, Eva Hild and Maria Miesenberger. Outside the museum walls and down by the water you cannot miss Tony Cragg’s six-metre tall and aptly named Point of view piece.

The museum also has a shop which is very browsable for cool souvenirs and recently renovated bistro which is great for courtyard eats.
